Review: 'Popup'
'Solstice'

-  Label: 'Last Night From Glasgow/Deezer/I-tunes'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '30.9.22.'

Our Rating:
Solstice is the first single from Popup's third album Promise, due out In March 2023, which is the second album they have put out since this this early 2000's Scottish pop band came back with Whimpers in 2020.

Solstice almost sounds like Prefab Sprout, if fronted by Stuart Staples but with clear enunciation, this feel achingly familiar, as the strings sweep in it feels gently uplifting as he sings about the longest day of the year.

The B-side Hitting Nine has an insistent riff and deadpan vocals that remind me a bit of I Like Trains, this has a long breakdown in the middle, as you wait for it to build back up it starts to pulsate as it comes back to life, as he lets her know he thinks she is at her best when she's on the back foot.
