Maria Meyers, a German, British-based singer-songwriter, has come together with child choir, Bfourteen, to produce a fundraising single for Ukrainian charity, Way Home, with Not Alone. With the aim of raising £5555 for those living in war zones, its a beautiful song about solidarity that is not only great, but supports a cause that we can all get behind.
Written in one night by an emotional Maria Meyers, who saw the news unfolding in Ukraine, and expressed her sadness in the form of music. Having recorded a demo of the song on the piano at first, Meyers then showed the song to friends who encouraged her to take it further which resulted in her friend, producer Dave McCabe, passing the demo on to Daniel Keaton, choirmaster of Bfourteen. Having rehearsed the demo with the group, Keaton decided to contact Meyers, and within weeks were down at Birmingham’s Circle Studios to record a full version.
Not Alone, as the title suggests, gives a message of togetherness with those suffering in Ukraine. Introduced beautifully by Meyers and her piano, she sings poignant lyrics about war and the pain that comes with it. Joined by the superb Bfourteen, they join Meyers for the chorus, adding a wonderful tone to the single. Moving the control room to tears during their sessions, Bfourteen add so much to the emotion of the music, elevating it to another level. The lyrics and music written by Meyers is fantastic, putting something difficult into words is never easy, but putting them into music is a skill that deserves to be celebrated.

Overall, Not Alone is a great song. Conveying the emotion that the war in Ukraine deserves, its a wonderfully written song that has music to match, with added elements from Bfourteen that complete it. With the song out on 25th November, this is one to add to your calendar – raising money for those in Ukraine, it’s an important message that needs support, and with the proceeds going to Ukrainian charity, Way Home, there is every guarantee that this will go to helping the people that need it.
