Artists Biogs
Vector Lovers
British games designer turned electronic musician, Martin Wheeler has been producing music since 1988 and recorded his first single under the name Vector Lovers in 2003. Vector Lovers are now signed to the pioneering Glasgow techno label, Soma Records have recorded three albums, collaborated with a diverse range of artists and performed live throughout Europe. Martin's compositions range from derelict neon soundscapes to future robot funk, always balancing accessibility with love of atmosphere and electronic experimentation.
Ben Osborne v Overlap
Ben Osborne is a DJ, music producer, writer and the founder of Noise of Art and resident at Slipped Disco. He has written extensively for the national press and magazines but now concentrates on writing for DJ magazine to leave himself time for developing Noise of Art projects, DJing internationally and doing his own music.
Overlap blur the boundaries between fine art, music and AV culture with their seductive imagery and dark melodic music. 2007 activity so far includes screenings at the BFI's Optronica festival; creating supersize visuals for Manchester International Festival's monumental Industrial Resolution event (a 48m wide screen filling the entire rear arch of the old Manchester Central Station, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox and DJ Shadow); and VJing alongside Trentmoller and Booka Shade at Creamfields Andalucia. A new instrumental album is in its final stages as are new Overlap AV videotones...
The Sancho Plan
The Sancho Plan is an audiovisual band that explores the real-time interaction between music and video and its potential for narrative and storytelling. Through their live performances and interactive installations, they create fantastical worlds in which animated musical characters are triggered by a variety of electronic drum pads. A mix of musicians, animators, designers and computer programmers, The Sancho Plan aim to present audiences with unforgettable, interactive entertainment experiences, and their creative output has been shown in clubs, festivals, cinemas, theatres and on television and computer screens around the world.
ZX Spectrum Orchestra
In 1982, myopic visionary and entrepreneur Sir Clive Sinclair released his most successful product - the Sinclair ZX Spectrum home computer. Little did he know that over 20 years later two devotees would endeavor to create electronic music utilising its most fundamental sound generating processes. Using only vintage Sinclair spectrum computers and peripheral devices the ZX Spectrum Orchestra produce an astonishing range of sounds to create the beeptastic results found on their first album, Basic Programming, existing in superposition somewhere between maths and disco - a work full of geek pride and dedication. Usher the computer age into your own home with the ZX Spectrum Orchestra. Explore the programming/mathematical/musical mysteries of their debut album, Basic Programming and their unique geek chic anthemic nerdcore single - Dollar Power.
Future Shorts
Future Shorts is the largest exhibitor and programmer of short films in the world. Future Shorts promises to challenge, inspire and above all entertain.
Boredbrand – AV Arcade Table & PacBike
Boredbrand's Digital Funfair combines new media, dance music, film and stuff found lying around in the street to create an experience which people will remember for a long time.
The PacBike is an interactive installation that uses a reclaimed exercise bicycle as an interface. A series of classic arcade games such as Pacman and Space Invaders have been adjusted and can now be played by bike providing a challenging and hilarious spectacle.
The AV Arcade Table is a simple hybrid, a tabletop arcade cabinet that has been converted to run Vjamm, the best Audio Visual VJ Software by miles! Using the joystick and buttons 2 people can trigger audio visual samples and create beautiful collaborative audio visual collage/a chaotic mess** (delete as appropriate!).
Fijuu – Fijuu2 (tbc)
Fijuu2 is the second iteration of the audio-visual project 'Fijuu' developed by artists Julian Oliver and Steven Pickles and commissioned by Cybersonica 2006. Fijuu2 takes ideas from this first performance-based version and brings the tool into the domain of a public installation, placing particular attention on providing the player with a set of intuitive compositional tools.
Fijuu2 features six unique 3D instruments, each of which may be 'sculpted' using Playstation2 like gamepads. The player manipulates forms and changes in the signal result. At any point the player can record a segment of desired length to a 3D track, represented as a spinning ring in the scene. Through layering recorded segments, and changing the amplitude and rotation speed of these segments, rich compositions are quickly produced.
igloo - NeverSummerNights
Bruno Martelli & Ruth Gibson are the creators of igloo - accomplished artists in the field of electronic media & performance, championing the use of motion capture in real-time 3d worlds. igloo has produced gallery installations, video works, online projects and performances that have been shown internationally at numerous festivals and events. igloo investigates the ways in which people relate to natural phenomena in both wilderness and urban environments. igloo's work questions the notion of the reality of nature and how it can be influenced by individual experience and collective mythology. The images and choreographed narratives produced, create dualities that challenge our perceptions of the real and the illusory.

About the organisers
Slipped Disco
Now in its second year, "Acclaimed Shoreditch"… "cutting edge electronic night" (Time Out), Slipped Disco was the first UK club to have Daft Punk DJs Kavinsky and Sebastian (Ed Banger) grace their decks, was the first UK club night that Alex Gopher's live band played at and has seen established acts such as Fred Deakin (Lemon Jelly) and I:Cube step into its DJ booth. Slipped Disco continues to invite a storming line-up of live up-and-coming and established electronic acts to join their free rock 'n' raving disco at Mother Bar, 333, Old Street.
Noise Of Art
A leading music and visual art platform, NOA celebrates the convergence of music and visual art brought about by the digital age with events held in clubs, art galleries and theatres; as well as non-traditional spaces. It works with established electronic musicians and artists and introduces new talent. Debut UK performances include introducing many of the Ed Banger roster from Paris to the UK, as well as featuring established acts such as Coldcut, Fred Deakin, Lemon Jelly and Laurent Garnier. Noise of Art is working with the British Film Institute reworking film from the National Film Archive (press/example copies of this work available on request). To date Noise of Art events have been held across the UK in London, Edinburgh, on the South Coast (Brighton and Bexhill), East Anglia and Glasgow.
"Turning the National Film Theatre into a riverside club and Tate Britain into a two floor dancefloor music venue indicates just how ambitious the organisers of this festival are as they seek to represent the clash and synergy of visuals and electronic music , silent films , live bands whatever interactive artworks are when they're not posing on the dancefloor ." Time Out "
Cybersonica
Cybersonica serves as London's best showcase for artists working with mediums of sound, digital technology and electronic music. A meeting point for digital artists, musicians, software developers and anyone interested in contemporary audiovisual experimentation, the programme provides knowledge sharing opportunities and a platform for experimental works to debut to important audiences. Highlights of previous years have included the worldwide debut of Sony's video game Guitar Hero II, music events with leading electronic artists (DJ Spooky, Howie B, Pole, Kid 606 and more) and opportunity for artists to be commissioned to create new works for exhibition. Simply put by commentary on the BBC World Service's Digital Planet radio show "This is what people should be doing with technology!"
GAMES:AV is part of the London Games Fringe < www.londongamesfringe.com> - a celebration of games and interactive entertainment taking place during late October 2007.
