TRISTRAM – “SOMEONE TOLD ME A POEM” EP

TRISTRAM RELEASES DEBUT EP ‘SOMEONE TOLD ME A POEM’ ON 22nd FEBRUARY 2010 THROUGH NEW LABEL OH, INVERTED WORLD RECORDS

For the past two years, London based club-night Oh, Inverted World (OIW) have been hosting nights across London at the Old Queens Head, Madame Jojo’s and Hoxton Bar and Kitchen. In this time, OIW have always striven to showcase the cutting-edge, the slightly bizarre and the very new. Having hosted artists such as Filthy Dukes, Clock Opera, Paloma Faith, Treetop Flyers, Goldheart Assembly, She Keeps Bees and many more; regularly jam-packing the venues and attracting celebrity punters like Mischa Barton, Jack Penate, and even Morrissey, OIW have developed a highly reputable name since their incarnation in late 2007.

One artist that particularly grabbed the attention of the OIW team was a London based singer-songwriter named Tristram. With his exceptional, and ever so slightly heartbreaking, vocals; the storytelling wit of a new Jeffery Lewis and his brilliantly understated melodies, Tristram is a truly captivating and memorable performer. So good that OIW decided – despite being more in the business of putting on bands, dancing and drinking – to establish their own indie label for the sole intention of putting out Tristram’s debut release.

Several months after Tristram’s first performance for OIW, and his debut four-track EP ‘Someone Told Me A Poem’ is recorded and set to be released through the freshly created Oh, Inverted World Records on 22nd February 2010. Available on CD and strictly limited to 300 copies, each adorned with Tristram’s own artwork, it will be available through all major DSPs. Dealing with such contemporary issues as the tragedy of your bicycle being stolen, saving those you’re romantically attached to from a zombie holocaust (“I’d only waste my life, so better I use it well to stop the monsters, from taking my loved one”) and, of course, the cultural icon Mr James Dean. Tristram’s imaginative and sardonic use of words and gentle encapsulation of folk is evocative of artists such as Conor Oberst, Daniel Johnston and Nick Drake.

Playing regularly with artists such as Cherbourg, The Agitator, Motel Motel, Peggy Sue and Alessi’s Ark; Tristram is already gaining a name for himself and the record is currently winning support from the likes of Rob Da Bank (Radio1), Tom Robinson (6music), John Kennedy (XFM) and Jon Hillcock (NME Radio). Tristram has also put together a fantastic band that he is currently writing and performing with, now featuring Becca Mears (Peggy Sue, Mariners Children) on cello, Thomas Heather (Kristin Mclement) on drums and Gregory Griffin (Lofty Heights) on backing vocals, guitar, and glock.

The band will be playing several live shows in January with a full national tour to be announced soon.
