The legendary British shoegaze band CHAPTERHOUSE have announced a rare performance at London's Scala on 18 March, which will be their only UK club show of 2010. Tickets are available through ticketweb.co.uk. The band has not reformed, so due to personal commitments their only other plans include a couple of European festival dates (TBA) following a short tour of the US and Japan in May.
The Scala show is curated by Club AC30, who persuaded CHAPTERHOUSE to get together for their first performance in 14 years at their 'Reverence' night at the ICA in November 2009, and the gig will be a fitting celebration of the label's sixth birthday which is coming up in April.
Supporting CHAPTERHOUSE will be the newly reformed ENGINEERS, who will be playing one of their first shows with ULRICH STRAUSS as a full-time member. Also playing is AIR FORMATION, whose new album "Nothing To Wish For (Nothing To Lose)" will be released through Club AC30 on 1 March. As well as supporting their favourite bands from the early 90s, Club AC30 continue to release great new music with currently scheduled releases including RINGO DEATHSTARR, EXIT CALM, AIR FORMATION, DORIAS BARACCA and I CONCUR.
CHAPTERHOUSE were pre-eminent in the British shoegazing scene of the early 90s, along with bands such as a RIDE, LUSH and SLOWDIVE. Their 1991 debut album "Whirlpool" widely regarded as one of the genre's most important releases and led the band to perform immediately after NIRVANA at that year's Reading festival.
