Our Rating:
This Nottinghamshire act boasts some six members, and there are no fewer than 10 performers in all credited on this album, but you’d never know. The trick Lorna have cracked on ‘Heart of Wire’ certainly isn’t that less is more in terms of contributors, but thankfully too many cooks don’t spoil the broth: the songs are crafted to sound simple, and retain a stripped-down poppy sensibility while being made from numerous layers and with countless incidentals woven into their fabric.

So, while ‘Heart of Wire’ is, in many ways, just another nice, tuneful acoustic-led indie pop album, it’s also extremely pleasant, and its simplicity and laid-back feel belies its true complexity. The harmonies shine through like the sun through the leaves of the trees in the inner sleeve. The downside is that all of this niceness and nuance, coupled with the slow pace of many of the songs makes for an album that lacks excitement.
