Review: 'Throw the Goat'
'Black Mountain'

-  Album: 'Black Mountain'
-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal'

Our Rating:
What is it with metal bands and their goats? In the interest of expanding my knowledge – and amusing myself with inane and pointless trivia when I should be doing something constructive – I’ve spent many an evening digesting the contents of a stuffed goat, I mean, the immense source of information that is Encyclopaedia Metallum. And the proliferation of goats is truly astounding. Dehydrated Goat, Eternal Goat, Floating Goat, Goat Messiah, Goat Warlord, Goat Molestation, Goat Vomit, Shit Goat, Goat Skull, Goat Anus, Goat Phallus, Goat Semen, Necrosadistic Goat Torture... yes, they’re all there. For the love of goat, what’s the deal?

Insofar as the album’s title’s concerned, well, it’s got the lot where ticking (black) metal boxes are concerned. I mean, it’s just impossible to go wrong with ‘black’ in the title. So, throwing the black goat over the mountain of blood, we arrive at the music itself.

‘Black Mountain’ is an aggressive, shouty lump of oily biker punk that brings bucketfuls of beer-swillin’ aggro. Big, dirty riffs and hoarse-throated vocals that strain against grinding bass and thumping drums to create a rugged, sweaty rock sound. Goat tell it on the mountain... these guys are pretty good (and their cover of En Vogue’s ‘Free Your Mind’ is stonking)
