Review: 'RUSTY WRIGHT BAND, THE'
'This That And The Other Thing'

-  Label: 'Sadson Music'
-  Genre: 'Blues' -  Release Date: '26th February 2013'

Our Rating:
Woke up this morning with the 'I've heard this kind of stuff a thousand times before' blues.

This is the fourth album by a band formed in 2004 by Michigan guitarists Rusty Wright and Laurie La Cross.

They claim to want a "variety of vibes" but what you hear are merely variations on a very tired sounding theme, with predictable lyrics, passionless vocals and proficient, yet soulless, guitar solos.

Rusty does most of the singing as on Mississippi Queen ("if you know what I mean") although Laura steps in occasionally for numbers such as Man On Fire (he knew he was gonna burn).

The low point is the profoundly un-funny Alarm Clock Blues and there's nothing in the other ten tracks to convince the listener that the band are doing anything other than regurgitating a set formula, free of any emotional engagement with the material.

If you don't have the blues before listening to this album, you sure as hell will afterwards; and that's not a compliment.
