Our Rating:
When posting a review on this site, it asks you to choose a genre for the artist you're looking to write about. But what do you do when the band sit across so many genres that they're hard to categorise? I decided to go for indie in the purest sense - independent, and unlike a lot of the bands who are out there at the moment.

Three Kings High have released a 4 track EP that moulds together a host of styles to create something genuinely different. It's all built around the structures of indie-rock - drums, guitars, vocals - but there are influences here, big ones, that come from genres as diverse as funk, jazz and even hip-hop.

Most of the tracks are based on walking bass lines that wouldn't sound out of place in a jazz band, while the staccato strumming that dominates the guitar lines is pure funk. It's all underpinned by solid rhythms on the drums, and a hastily delivered vocal that doesn't go so far as to overshadow everything going on underneath.

This is top work from a top new band. Well done Reel Me Records for discovering them and sharing them with the rest of us.
