Our Rating:
So what happens after the dogs have barked and the birds have flown? Iron Tongue happens, is what. The Tongue speaks in deep tones, of humanity and heartache. You’d better listen, because what the Tongue says needs to be heard.

Blues crawler ‘Ever After’ metamorphosises into a behemoth blues snarler; ‘Witchery’ owes a significant debt to ‘Sweet Leaf’ - or moreover to the Butthole Surfers’ ‘Sweat Loaf’, as performed by Motorhead, while ‘Lioness’ positively roars with its stomping badass bass groove. If ‘Skeleton’ has hints of classic rock to it, it’s also got immense swagger and monumental power.

Iron Tongue’s roots clearly lie in the traditions of blues-based rock ‘n’ roll and the murky swamps from which Sabbath emerged, and belongs to that evolutionary trajectory of rock throughout which The Riff stands proudly as the axis of everything. So, with one ear to the vintage and another to the present, Iron Tongue’s take on rock is simultaneously classic, with a heavy dash of bourbon-soaked blues, and contemporary, with a peppering of hard-edged heavy metal thunder – and it kick ass.
