Review: 'Middleman'
'Helpless'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '2nd September 2013'

Our Rating:
A confession. I’ve never seen Middleman. I’ve intended to, but for various reasons, have always failed. Prior engagements, other bands on at the same time and, er, falling asleep in a corner of the Brudenell in Leeds. April 2010: it was Record Store Day. I shopped till I dropped and had been watching bands and supping ale from lunchtime. It was hot and I as tired and the first thing I knew was that a random stranger was poking me awake just before headliners I Like Trains took the stage. I’m grateful for that, and feel I should apologise to Middleman. Kipping through a band’s performance is poor form.

I feel I should doubly apologise now, because ‘Helpless’ is an indie-punk-rap crossover that’s ultra-lively and as hooky as hell and will lodge itself in your brain whether you want it to or not. It reminds me a fair bit of PWEI, but y’know, that’s not necessarily such a bad thing.
