Review: 'SANDLER, JON'
'Late Night Champ'

-  Label: 'Super Duper Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '29th July 2013'

Our Rating:
A set of mainstream pop songs with very conventional arrangements and wimpy un-poetic lyrics including some real clunkers like : "Judy likes to sleep all day, she knows karate" (Judy) and "tears run down my face but they freeze because it's cold outside" (Down On My Luck).

The title track is a reference to the fact that the artist is apparently at his best in the wee small hours although the cover shot has him pictured in bed with a cute cat and a bowl of soup rather than painting the town red.

The album was produced in New York by Dominic Fallacaro who as pianist is the most prominent member of Sandler's Fancy Band.

These are songs about finding time and space to let his soul grow in a world full of possibilities.

Love - the searching for, clinging to or letting go thereof - is the recurrent theme but the principal topic is Jon Sandler; one song is even called ME.

He's a young Brooklyner who seems like a pretty honest, straightforward sort of guy but not fascinating enough to justify eleven songs on the subject.

"Where did my ego go?" is a rhetorical question on Slow Parade but, on the strength of this album, if it was ever mislaid, the loss was only temporary.
