The indefatigable T E Morris is at it again, with another release: this time around, the Her Name is Calla main man comes in from the left with a six-track mini album, pitched as ‘a collection of half finished songs that were completed on the spot, live in the Yorkshire countryside’ and described as being ‘heavily improvisational’, the tracks being separated minimally mixed.
Maybe it’s the new speakers I’ve just purchased, but the sound quality and balance of the audio is exceptional, especially given the recording conditions. The wind funnels across the microphones throughout, occasionally muffling Morris’ gentle vocals and minimal guitar work, and you feel as thought you’re out there on a barren moorland with Tom playing a personal set, just for you in the middle of nowhere, a true troubadour.

This imbues the lengthy – six-minute plus – songs an immediacy and a humanity. ‘Things Happen for No Reason’ also finds Morris in an uncharacteristically chipper mood at times, the upbeat – yet characteristically delicate – ‘Through The Dream We Share’ being positively breezy.
