I’m rather a fan of the split 7” single format, and this abrasive little noisefest exemplifies precisely why, being an excellent taster of the two acts featured in under seven minutes.
Comanechi’s ‘H.A.T.E.’ has super-heavy chug-a-chug guitars, half nicked from Nirvana’s ‘Floyd the Barber’ and downtuned and distorted to sludgy buggery, then topped with indecipherable Pinky and Perky vocals that sound like the tracks have been mixed up. It’s crazy, and also srangely good.
Female Smell present a more conventional sound: heavy-duty grunge-tinged punk finds a driving guitar and cymbal-favouring percussion fuels a sneery, shouty vocal about, er, payday loans. They sound pretty pissed off, and given the insane interest rates on the things, not without reason.
