Review: 'MAGIK MARKERS'
'Ice Skater / Machines (single)'

-  Label: 'Drag City'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '16th September 2013'

Our Rating:
This schizophrenic 7" single heralds the imminent release (November 2013) of this Connecticut indie power trio's new album Surrender To The Fantasy.

Ice Skater is a narcotized post grunge ballad which might be about the sport but the "bloodless disco beat" and deadpan drawl of Elisa Ambrogio suggests they have less wholesome recreational pursuits in mind.

It could serve as a smoochy tune to wind down a hipster party, while the b-side,Machines, is three and half minutes of skronking guitar abuse which would be guaranteed to clear the room.

This segment of random free jamming noise might make sense as part of an extended improv workout but, in this confined single format sounds little more than a sample of the mayhem they are capable of.

The sudden fadeout gives a hint that they could go on like this for hours irrespective of whether anyone is listening or not.

A poor man's Sonic Youth but pretty good.
