Review: 'BongCauldron'
'BongCauldron (EP)'

-  Label: 'Super Hot Records'
-  Genre: 'Thrash Metal' -  Release Date: '13th January 2014'

Our Rating:
If further proof was needed that Leeds is the UKs most fertile ground for non-mainstream music right now, the absurdly monikered megaheavyweights BongCauldron grinding debut surely provides it. Their PR guy describes them as a ‘raucous sludge power trio’ and defines their sound as ‘no-nonsense, heavier-than-a-chainmail-clad-walrus sludge’... and he’s right. This EP is a megalithic, riffcentric trudge from beginning to end. It contains tracks with titles like ‘Pissed Up’ and ‘Gimp Jig’.

The detuned, distorted to fuck guitars and throat-wrecking vocals, all but buried in the mess of distortion, call to mind classics like Fudge Tunnel’s ‘Hate Songs in E Minor’: it’s brutal, it’s soaked in feedback and it’s so ugly it makes sin look like a pin-up. Heavy as hell, and seriously grimy. Ace.
