Our Rating:
What to say about an album so bland that after 5 listens not one tune is memorable enough on this my sixth listen to sound like something I've heard before!!?? Then you read the press release to find it has taken the band 5 years to record an album so bland it's instantly forgotten the moment you press the eject button.

I tried taking notes while listening on more than one occasion and by the time I got to the end of the album I still had an empty piece of paper so I tried a bit harder today and managed just under three lines of notes over the course of the 18 tracks making up 'Music From The Monks Kitchen.'

Firstly the opening track On A Dark Black Ocean is an almost decent rain lashed tune about the sea. The next tune to emerge from the wall of bland boredom is the 6th track Hollow Of The Night that has some decent sounding Spanish guitar on it and then on track 15, III Legged Dog, I managed the comment "Decent Instrumental stand out track".

Yes they can play and the tunes are decently played and produced it's just the lack of anything interesting going on at any point that just makes this music to fall into a coma to. If it takes them another 15 years to come up with the follow up to this album it will be too soon for me.

In many respects I wish these monks came from a trappist order as that would have improved this album no end for me.
