This split EP features three tracks based around the themes of travel, history, and memory. Harmon contributes two shorter pieces, Miller one, a two-part composition segued to form a sprawling 12-minute grinding drone that swells and pulses and slowly drills into the listener’s skull, steering memories into new zones of the cerebral cortex before tapering down to a throbbing buzz. It’s subtly powerful.
Harmon’s tracks are similarly minimalist, but again, not without strength or impact. In fact, their subtlety is their strength: semi-tangible atmospherics and notes that resonate and undulate barely above the levels of aural perception take the listener almost by stealth. Abstract whirrs and whistles collide against a piano note that hangs interminably while a static hiss rises sharply, but only for a momnt. ‘Vela’ and ‘Velorum’ are clearly companion pieces, and they compliment one another well, and when placed alongside Miller’s strong soundscape, it makes for a release that embraces a broad spectrum of aural experiences and shifting moods.
