In certain circles, the Synthi AKS is considered a legendary machine, revered for its outstanding sonic flexibility and the organic feel only analogue can produce. Yoshio Machida’s by no means the first to make an entire album devoted to the exploration of the machine Electronic Music Studios manufactured in 1971: 2009 saw the second compilation of works by artists operating under the flag of The Synthi Group, pushing the kit to its absolute limit.
Grumbles and rumbles, blips, bleeps and whirs, bloops and loops, crackles and pops, sonar, radar… Machida tweaks and pokes and sculpts an array of weird and wonderful sounds from his kit – and you don’t have to be a vintage tech enthusiast to appreciate the results.
