Review: 'Voluntary Butler Scheme, The'
'A Million Ways To Make Gold'

-  Album: 'A Million Ways To Make Gold' -  Label: 'Split Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '23rd March 2014'

Our Rating:
Perhaps it’s the simple, direct and slightly home-made sounding production, or perhaps it’s the uncluttered, honest compositions, or perhaps it’s Rob Jones’ knack for a nifty pop tune that makes ‘A Million Ways to Make Gold’ a tidy album packed with gems with a certain vintage quality. Or perhaps it’s a combination of all of these things, that mystical alchemy that renders the sum greater than the parts.

With a keen 60s pop flavour, with layers of harmony, clean melodies and songs generously laced with brass. He’s not averse to chucking in piano and xylophone into the mix either, and if songs all sound upbeat and sweet, Jones still manages to squeeze in a few sharp lyrics, too.
