Review: 'Fight Like Apes'
'Whigfield Sextape EP'

-  Label: 'Alcopop! Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '12th May 2014'

Our Rating:
Who remembers Whigfield? No? Well, I guess a sextape would be one way she could relaunch her career. Fight Like Apes’ new EP doesn’t seem to have much connection to the ‘Saturday Night’ singer, although ‘Crouching Bees’ is a surprisingly jaunty pop tune with bouncy synths and an oriental motif.

Shouty male / female vocals clash over a fuzzy bass on ‘bwah!’ – add to it tinkly synths, rasping robot vocals and some off-kilter lyrics about making shoes with spinal cords and it’s a crazy concoction which all comes together to create some uplifting pop. It’s lo-fi, it’s not too serious and it’s certainly not heavy. It’s perhaps not their strongest work, either, but it’s still good fun – and fun, people, is important (and not just on a Saturday night, which is why I’m on my bed wearing a towel right now).
