If you can imagine Twin Atlantic with a soaring post-rock feel, not to mention some colossal guitar-driven choruses, you’re 75% of the way to getting a handle on Foreign Skies. If, on the face of things, that combination has only limited appeal on paper, it’s understandable. Don’t be deterred or misled: this is actually pretty good, and an extremely assured-sounding set of songs.
They’re not beyond springing a few surprises, either: ‘Piste’ suddenly breaks into a doodly math-rock middle eight, which sounds a shade out of place, but does add greater impact to the thunderous chorus.

The intro to ‘Go Forth and Destroy’ sounds like it’s been lifted straight from an I Like Trains album, its softly chiming guitar weaving a delicate and enticing path into the song. While the build is inevitable, as is the immense chorus refrain that surges to a powerful, fist-pumping finale, it’s well executed and to have ended the EP any other way would have been a huge letdown.
