Review: 'Raw Fabrics'
'Down the Drain'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '20th May 2014'

Our Rating:
The cover art depicts a bloke in a bath. He’s smoking a fag and wearing a white balaclava over his head. You might expect such an image to accompany something musically abrasive, jagged, unpleasant even.

Produced by Stephen Street, known for his work with The Smiths and Blur and more recently Kaiser Chiefs and Babyshambles, ‘Down the Drain’ strolls in confidently, boasting a bass line is low-down and lays a sturdy groove that’s hard to resist, coupled to a nagging guitar. Truth is, ‘Down the Drain’ actually sounds like ‘Grey Lantern’ era Mansun, not just in the song’s musical dynamics and huge, huge chorus, but in Jack B. Franco’s vocal style, albeit with a bit more grit than Paul Draper.

As a debut single, it’s a strong statement and for a band barely old enough to drink, it’s a real achievement.
