Review: 'Miss FD'
'The Grand Version'

-  Album: 'Comfort for the Desolate' -  Label: 'Independent'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'Out Now'

Our Rating:
With a nice line in what is termed Gothpop - a shadowy twist on pop tropes - Miss FD is a songwriter with a unique sensibility. Latest single 'The Grand Version' shows this off well, telling her dark tales through an accessible but non-linear structure.

Miss FD isn't for music fans who like the comfort of light themes and sunny dispositions. Fans of straightforward verse-chorus-verse-chorus songs need not apply. But those who can get past the unusual touches and uneasy undertones will be rewarded with a hypnotic track that grows in stature as it continues.

The vocal hangs on a single note for the most part, complimenting the simple, curling instrumentation that loops back on itself over and over until it's stuck in your mind.

Nope, this one is not for fans of McFly. It's more interesting than that.
