Review: 'MONSTER JAW'
'Get A Tattoo (EP)'

-  Label: 'Cobra Kitten'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'May 2014'

Our Rating:
The 'Get A Tattoo' E.P. is the debut release from Monster Jaw, a band formed in 2013 by singer/songwriter and guitarist Mik Davis, bassist Neil Short and drummer John Bradford. The band members come from Newcastle and Leeds.

The E.P. has three tracks, all of which are heavily influenced by garage rock, and possibly a bit of psychedelia as well. The guitar sound is great, with the the sound set to max. The opening title track 'Get A Tattoo' is a brilliantly understated track, where the lyrics will resonate with a large number of inked people: - “On the first day I got a tattoo, on the second day I got a tattoo,With me mother's name, I got a tattoo/ On the last day, I got a tattoo removed.”

The second track, 'We Don't Care About Anything', is another classic. Faster and rockier this really bounces along with a sense of urgency: - “Got a new car, got a new house, got a new wife she's got a new face...We don't care about anything, why should we care about anything new”.

The final track 'Summer Girl' owes a little bit to bands like Joy Division, and again comes across really well: - “Coming out of my head, I been losing my mind, everything goes, everything dies/
The weight of the gun held in my hand, watching you rise, watching you rise”.

Overall, this is a stonkingly good debut, a band like this is headed for greatness, and certainly deserves it. Get this one in, this is the (alternative) sound of Summer.
