Review: 'EAT LIGHTS BECOME LIGHTS'
'Into Forever'

Our Rating:
This album sets off at a cracking pace with a four minute blast of life in the fast lane motorik in the form of Velocet Vir Nesat.

Doubtless there are many who would be quite happy if the other six tracks followed a similar pattern and momentum. However, for founder member Neil Rudd, location is more important than destination so this record is more than just a collection of driving Krautrock rhythms.

Rudd describes Into Forever as a more internal album that its three predecessors and cites Steve Reith and Moondog as being among his key influences.

Through backing Damo Suzi and becoming the house band at Rudd's Klub Motorik in London, ELBL have evolved into an extremely tight unit bolstered by the rhythm section of John Barrett and Al Baker.

The synthesized beats are mostly tied to a melodic core with only the ten minute drifting ambient drone of Vapour Trails taking the listener into more abstract territory.

Otherwise tracks like Bounce Synth, Shapes And Patterns and You Are Disko are grounded in repetition but also infused with lively textures.

The spiralling loops of the ten minute title track which close the album neatly balances the various strands of the band's sound to prove that substance not speed lies at the heart of their philosophy.

What's important is not where you go but how you get there.
