Review: 'TUSSILAGO'
'Say Hello'

-  Label: 'Ingrid Label/ Artist Collective'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '23rd June 2014'

Our Rating:
Another week, another high quality dreampop song from Sweden. Must be(the lack of)something in the water.

Of course here in Britain, we can’t possibly think of emulating our Scandinavian neighbours (ancestors?) because, well, we’re different to them. Alternatively, we’re just not good enough.

Anyway, political diatribe over with, so on with the music. Tussilago are a guitar based four piece who formed in 2011. Having released a highly regarded EP they are now recording their first album and this single is the first fruit of that.

It is fairly muted to start with as mandolin like guitar and simple kick and toms ply their trade. Whilst it doesn’t exactly explode (what dreampop would?) it does show some craft with its arrangement and changes, it has strong, identifiable vocals and Mac-esque lead to finish us off.

It is otherworldly and poppy and actually, the more you pay attention, the more the song reveals to you. You could say it fits in somewhere between early 4AD and shoegaze with a hint of blues thrown in. ‘Say Hello’ certainly has a touch of the classic about it. It will be interesting to hear how the album sounds come October, to see if they can expand on the concept and create a truly psychedelic soundscape.
