Review: 'MOONIES, The'
'Rock and Roll EP - Who the Fuck are The Moonies'

-  Label: 'tri-tone recordings'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '8 Dec 2003'-  Catalogue No: 'PB005'

Our Rating:
Who the fuck indeed. The Moonies are a three piece from Liverpool who name themselves after Keith Moon and have recently toured with the Buzzcocks. These facts combined with song titles like ‘Teenage Suicide’ should give you a fair idea of what to expect. As should the fact that it is produced by Gordon Raphael (famous for his work with the Strokes).

‘Being Me’ is the lead track here, all snotty guitars and anarchic spirit, it owes as much to early Guns‘n’Roses as it does to the Sex Pistols. No bad thing when it leads to this fine example of speed fuelled rock and roll.

Unfortunately the rest of the EP isn’t quite up to that bright opening and in particular ‘Record Store’ is a bubblegum, Ramones influenced romp that is at best pointless but probably just bollocks. As shambolic as the scrawled pink writing across the 7” suggests then.
