Review: 'GLASS CAVES'
'Alive'

-  Label: 'Tri-Tone'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '27th October 2014'

Our Rating:
When asked what Glass Caves have that other bands don't, lead singer Matt quipped "more hair". His answer is both evasive and accurate.

I doubt if even he and his band-mates would claim they have the most original sound on the rock planet. On the basis that 'all art is theft' anyway, they steal quite brazenly from the likes of Kasabian, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and countless others.

Slightly more original is the way the band have gone about raising their public profile. They have tightened their live sound and boosted their Facebook likes by literally taking to the streets and busking around Northern shopping centres; principally in their home city of York.

Americanized vocals don't mask the Yorkshire accent while the breathless energy rush of these 12 tunes don't make up for the lack of variety. Still theirs is a fundamentally crowd-pleasing approach and their down-to-earth style has already won them slots on UK's festival circuit.

Lyrically, there is nothing complex about tracks like Go and Tonight but there's a certain immediacy too.

For the moment songs like these are sufficient to get them noticed and help make this a rousing debut. However, unless they are able to broaden their sound and find their own voice, their story will be a case of hair today, gone tomorrow.
