Boston, Lincolnshire. Not a lot happens there beyond the picking of peas and potatoes. As a Lincolnite by birth, I’m painfully aware of the rural backwater that constitutes the country’s largest county. It’s perhaps not surprising that there are thriving metal and goth scenes round those parts. I also played a gig in Boston back in the early 90s, at the town’s leading venue The Axe and Cleaver. It was terrifying.
Anyway, it’s out of this bleak landscape this quintet have emerged, raging and seething, with influences drawn from the likes of Slipknot, American Head Charge and Tool. They sound like their lettering suggests they sound. Throbbing industrial grinder ‘Here Comes the Flood’ demonstrates why they’re pitched as ‘apocalyptic’, while ‘1984’ boasts a huge chorus while at the same time casting a nod to Nine Inch Nails. It’s not bad. Not bad at all.
