Turns out Kicking Harold have been kicking about for some time, but like so many bands, got mired in dealings with a major label that put their career on hold and saw their back catalogue vanish. They’ve still managed to slip a further three albums out in the last decade, but they’ve decided the time is right for the release of ‘Kill You’ as a single, which first appeared on their 1996 MCA debut album, ‘Ugly & Festering’ and will re-appear on their upcoming long-player, ‘Red Light District’.
They’re pitched as ‘modern rock alchemists’ who ‘synthesize hard rock, alternative, metal and dance-pop elements’. ‘Kill You’ certainly has plenty of guitar, and plenty of chorus, and for a track that’s inching towards being 20 years old, it’s fared pretty well in a 90s post-grunge alt-rock sort of a way (they reference Stone Temple Pilots and it’s a fair indicator of where they’re coming from). This comeback is unlikely to set the world alight, but you have to respect these guys for sticking at it.
