The bulk of ‘Clean Break’ is devoted to uptempo singer-songwriter type material. Jaunty, catchy tunes with a country / folk attenuation, the title track features some full-on country slide guitar and spins a tale of heartbreak that’s infinitely more Nashville than Glasgow. Beatlesesque harmonies around on ‘So Sad About It’; the crisply claustrophobic electropop of ‘Be A Star’ seems slightly incongruous, but it’s neatly executed.
