Review: 'Hadron Colliders, The'
'Measuring the Space Between Us All (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Indie'

Our Rating:
Initially, I misread the band’s name as The Hardon Colliders, which seemed a little incongruous with the abstracted charcoal sketch of a landscape and the title, both of which seemed to suggest ponderous post-rock. In the event, while there are some thoughtful chiming guitar moments, The Hadron Colliders are less ethereal and more straight ahead than all that.

‘Swallows and Amazons’ sounds very like an acoustic version of Steve Harley’s ‘Make Me Smile’, at least in the verses, while lead single for the Australian four-piece’s debut release, Bellwether’ is an ode to London with heavy hints of the Go-Betweens about it.

‘Shanghai Lights’ is the strongest track, with a soaring chorus that’s hard to ignore, and closer ‘Cherry Blossom Girl’ isn’t a cover of the Air song, but a driving guitar tune that draws on countless indie rock tropes to good effect.
