Review: 'TED Z AND THE WRANGLERS'
'Like A King EP'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '5th June 2014'

Our Rating:
The cover is a drawing of a comely Cowgirl straddling a hollow crown which, depending on your religious beliefs, might belong to Jesus or Elvis.

This EP is the work of a five-piece band from Southern California fronted by tattooed singer and guitarist Ted Zakka. The five track sampler is billed as "gritty grassroots Americana with a cowboy kick".

A rockabilly country beat clicks into a smooth toe-tapping, cow-punching rhythm with songs that imagine God appearing in a backyard (Heaven's Rent) or else evoke the lovesick blues of Hank Williams (Virginia).

It's good time rawhide music designed for consumption in a sweaty live setting which unfortunately sounds pretty humdrum on disc.
