Our Rating:
This is the Norwegian sound artist's first solo project having built up a name through a number of collaborations, notably with David Sylvian and Brian Eno. It was recorded in his home studio in Oslo.

Honoré contributes samples and synthesizers; guest musicians include guitarist Eivind Aarset, Supersilent trumpeter Arve Henriksen (on Strife) and violinist Jeffrey Bruinsma on Red Café.

The title, meaning sun-writing, is the same as that of his first published novel, a fictional account of the very first photograph.

These are organic, abstract pieces that initially seem formless yet, as repeated listens reveal, are actually meticulously structured.

The quietness is the most striking quality; an aspect described by his publicists as "introverted music with a bite".

Sanctuary (and Sanctuary Revisited) are the only tracks you could safely call songs. These feature the pure vocals Sidsel Endresen who can also be heard making curious warbling sounds on the opening track, Navigators

Otherwise, the meandering pieces are more concerned with textures than beats or rhythms. They evoke a process, not a finished project - a journey more than a destination.

The beauty lies in the mystery.
