Review: 'NEW CANDYS'
'New Candys As Medicine'

-  Label: 'Picture In My Ear'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '6th April 2015'

Our Rating:
Despite the band name and album title, there’s not much that is ‘new’ about this record.

Although hailing from Venice, Italy, this four piece's second album is full of dark psychedelic rock'n'roll which borrows heavily from the late 60s era American underground.

Aphrodite In Leather, for instance, contains a riff that is highly reminiscent of I Wanna Be Your Dog.

Released on a Minneapolis based label, the ten-track album is replete with reverb drenched acid-blues with vocals (in English) buried deep in the swirling mix.

The video for the single Dark Loveshows some originality in the band's cinematic bent with clips from Maya Deren's cult classic 'Meshes In The Afternoon'; a key influence on David Lynch and other surrealist directors.

As far as the musc goes, though, the whole enterprise is just fuzzy and unvarying.;a trip that soon becomes too samey and overly derivative.
