Review: 'SKYDIVE TRIO'
'Sun Moee'

-  Label: 'Hubro'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: 'June 2015'-  Catalogue No: 'HUBROCD2537'

Our Rating:
Guitarist, Thomas T. Dahl is billed as the leader and driving force of this Norwegian-based trio but all three musicians are apparently well known on Norway's jazz circuit and this album seems more accurately described as a collaborative affair than a one-man show. <

Dahl composed Slow Turn,Talbot and the title tune Sun Moee but bassist Mats Eilertsen, who has released four albums on Hubro under his own name, also contributed three songs, namely Bravo, Signs and Becks Back.

Finnish drummer Olavi Louhivuori gets in on the act too with the closing song (Four Words).

The remaining number is a moody instrumental cover of Portishead's Sour Times.

In the promotional blurb, words like 'exuberant' and 'inspired' are banded around but, in truth, this is such a chilled set of songs that its hard to imagine the musician worked up much of a sweat in the studio.

If its dreamy, mellow grooves you want then this is a record for you.

Personally it's all just a little too slick and subdued for my taste.
