Review: 'Dark Sky Park'
'Follow Me (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '8th January 2016'

Our Rating:
Every third rock act seems to be citing Queens of the Stone Age at the moment. Sheffield’s Dark Sky Park are but one more, although more unusually, they manage to lob Arctic Monkeys, Black Sabbath and ‘Ziggy Stardust’ (I’m assuming they mean Ziggy-era Bowie) into the mix. Well, if the blurb is to be believed.

Lead track ‘Follow Me’ is more of a slightly theatrical goth swinger that calls to mind Birdeatsbaby, only without the spark of danger or the panache. Nevertheless, there’s an archness and a sense of drama which permeates the EPs five tracks with big sweeps of cabaret. The guitars get a bit Brian May on ‘Lonely Girl’, but it kinda works: Debbie Bilson sure knows how to belt ‘em out. ‘Stand My Ground’ is more of a straight ahead rocker somewhere between Joan Jett and The Cult’s ‘Sonic Temple’ era. It’s ok, but so bog-standard that they’re probably better sticking to the glammy swinging stuff.
