Our Rating:
This is the debut album by Canadian Jangle pop band Persian Rugs whose artwork is sort of a homage to Neu even if the music is far janglier than that for the most part. They were found on Bandcamp by Jigsaw records who rightly believe this album is worth a proper release.

Well is it OK for now? Well maybe as long as you've had enough Persians to feel all right as Bedhead bursts out of the speakers like they have all taken Viagra and ecstasy and chased the girl singer into some sort of drugged up debauched orgy of shoegaze-y guitars full of feedback with harmonized backing vocals leading you into this bender they want you to join them on.

I Wanted Something More is obviously a plea for different Persians and from its slow place we are now looking for some Valium to bring things down a bit just to mellow out as she still claims to feel fine. Naked, however, is more like they scored some primo MDMA came up and had to just strip and get naked and have fun over the real cool indie jangle as they all party on in the buff.

Cotton Candy is not about the sort of Candy Angel Corpus Christi sang about. No, it's not about planet smack either, but it is a bit dark and languorous like you've smoked some hash while listening to the Marine Girls and thought about fusing them with Heidi Berry and got very confused along the way. It's a cool late night song that is also a bit like Angelfish's slower numbers and it's almost like she needs more Persians to get to the end of the song.

Underemployed - yes like you're so out of it all the time you can't do serious work - this one is nicely numb in the middle of the day on weed and Xanax as the singer argues about whether to get a proper job or go back to school when she really just wants to get stoned again and run around naked. And who can blame her when it sounds like this much fun.

Falling Through The Floor normally only happens on Fly Agaric or Mushrooms and, well, take some and smoke a huge joint and this will melt walls for you as you sink into a hazy oblivion intoxicated by how this is like an upbeat This Mortal Coil fighting to be an upbeat Everything But The Girl song before realizing you can't make that stuff upbeat. Oh no, the Persians have kicked in again!

Comic Book Dreams is like you've had a few too many amphetamines and everything's gone all Ren & Stimpy on you. Things are jumping out all over the place and the organ is grinding on your ears and making you beg for those drums to come back in and then everyone's eyes will go back in the sockets (hopefully) before the song is done.

The album ends with Phone Call From The Lake where someone has just OD'd and needs rescuing. Well alright, it's not really, but ought to be as the jangly guitars make it sound more like early Pastels if only you could give them some more codeine to mellow the world a bit. The guitars explode and distort and can the OD be saved? Well I hope so as I wanna hear some more from Persian Rugs in the not too distant future.
