Review: 'Mind The Journey'
'Color In The Gray Machine'

-  Album: 'Color In The Gray Machine'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '5th January 2016'

Our Rating:
Sometimes, I find myself staring into space and wondering ‘what?’ Sometimes, this reaction is to something that’s simply a long way out and takes some time to compute. On other occasions, I’ll simply be on the fence as I try to decide whether something falls on the side of good or bad. And others, I’ll be wondering just what the actual fuck the band or artist was thinking as they dredged together such a steaming pile of cack under the guise of an ‘album’. And this is one of those efforts.

The Boston band throw in references to psychedelic rock and neo-psychedelia as well as ‘alternative’. Alternative to what? Something coherent?

Sidestepping the lame title, the album is a mess. The songs don’t hang together collectively as they sway and swerve from shuffling post-Madchester indie to plodding half-backed anthems Kasabian would scorn, via jittery, skittering dance beats. Individually they’re not up to much either.

I’d love to commend Mind the Jounrey on their diversity and vision and willingness to experiment, but ‘Color In The Gray Machine’ sounds like a bad collision between head and sphincter, brimming with ideas – few of them especially good – and a distinct lack of ken for putting them together.
