The press release promises Thrash Metal, Western Thrash, and Thrash ‘n’ Roll blistering its way from Austria, and describes Proll Guns as ‘Thrash Cowboys’. Yup, they got all kinds of thrash, these ole boys, and the charmingly-titled ‘Horseflesh BBQ’ (a popular activity here in the UK until a couple of years ago) finds Proll Guns delivering the lot, in absolute spades. While at time veering into the nasty, black thrash terrains, ‘Horseflesh BBQ’ sounds like a thunderous hybrid of Mötörhead and Ministry. You could maybe throw in some RevCo, Morning Glories and Workhorse Movement, too: as song titles like ‘Texas Banjo Massacre’, ‘From Texas to Hell’ and ‘Southern Slavery’ suggest, redneck thrash with a fucked-up country twang pounded out at a frenetic pace is what it’s all about.

Distorted to hell vocals, already ruined by whiskey and Marboro, snarl over pounding percussion and monster riffs. Occasional breakdowns to banjo or ukulele only make this a weirder, wilder ride, and if you’re considering a quick bit of line-dancing, forget it: crushing powerchords with devastating afterburn carve a far heavier groove and make this an unexpected corker.
