Review: 'MASOTTO, LORENZO'
'Rule And Case'

-  Label: 'Preserved Sound'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '15th February 2016'

Our Rating:
Lorenzo Masotto is an Italian pianist and composer from Verona who, for this album, is accompanied by a string quarter comprising two violins, viola and cello.

The eleven instrumental pieces are more classical than ambient, occasionally even a little jazzy, particularly on Parkour.

This is one of three tracks to feature drums, a detail that provides some welcome variety to the pretty, but often pretty dull, piano-driven pieces.

The most ambitious, and most interesting, track is saved for last with Rainbow getting some extra colour through some tasty sax and trombone.

Chrono experiments, less succesfully with glitchy synthesized textures.

Masotto seems aware that you need something more than a nice tune and talented musicianship to hold the attention but, nevertheless, too much of this record falls into the category of safe easy listening background music.
