Review: 'LORIEN'
'CHERRYWOOD EYES'

-  Label: 'INSTANT KARMA RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'NEW RELEASE 10/6/02'

Our Rating:
LORIEN'S recent supporting gigs with ELECTRIC SOFT PARADE demonstrated just how spurious so many music industry hypes can be, as the ridiculously hotly-tipped, pre-pubescent ESP from Brighton were shown up as regional chancers by this exciting, Trans European trio.

LORIEN'S debut album "Under The Waves", meantime, is a fine, accomplished record in its' own right and, although it's probably not as startling as either previous singles "Shivering Sun" and "Ghostlost", "Cherrywood Eyes" is still an impressive salvo from Fabio's boys, showcasing LORIEN'S pretty, but naturally brittle tunesmithery.

Indeed, there's a ghostly, sophisticated grace to LORIEN that bypasses most current bands and "Cherrywood Eyes" has a winning way with shiny, scrubbed acoustics, a rising chorus and a typically yearnsome vocal from Fabio that once again proves the old adage about class telling.LORIEN will probably not crack huge success with a big bang. They're not that sort of band at all. However, this writer can see them attaining large cult success and then crossing over to the mainstream via a quiet, furtive kind of route which will probably stand them in good stead for a longevity-fuelled career.
A third infinitely satisfying single, then. LORIEN look like a good bet in the dark horse stakes. (8/10)
