This single was originally meant to be part of Tom Dyer's New Pagan Gods History Of Northwest Rock Vol.1 which came out last year and I have just reviewed. I was sent a copy with the single, which true to form with most Hendrix covers projects, comes with a story. In this instance, it took a year longer to get the clearances sorted than for the other songs on the album which is why this is now a non-album single rather than part of the album. It's not a bad story but it's not a patch on the story behind Richard Lloyd's Jamie Neverts Story album.
Anyway, first up is Spanish Castle Magic, which they take at a faster pace than Richard Lloyd and also with more effects. Obviously you can't beat the original but this has enough going on to make it well worth hearing and is very much in the spirit of the Experience too.

On the B-side is Little Wing, a song you have to avoid a lot of cliches to even get close to pulling off. Unlike, say, Sting, Eric Clapton or Skid Row's versions this manages it very nicely indeed. Yes it's histrionic in places as it needs to be but never over the top and never in the sickly way that this song is often covered. This is a cringe-free version which is of course a triumph in itself.
All Hendrix collectors will want to at least hear this single and can find out more at Green Monkey Records online
