Review: 'AUTOMAT'
'OSTWEST'

-  Label: 'Bureau B'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '11th November 2016'

Our Rating:
For me this doesn't quite hit the heights of Automat's last album 'PlusMinus' released last year but it certainly does maintain the high standards one has come to expect from Bureau B over the years.

Opener 'Ost' is reminiscent of early Massive Attack. 'Fabrik Der Welt' raises the tempo and dips into New Order's instrumental back catalogue. 'Tranenpalast' sits somewhere between the first two. Mood, meditation and rhythm would be the watchwords for this band. 'Yuko' is the shortest track on the album and again I hear Massive Attack in its swells.

'West' introduces whispered vocals and cheap effects and keeps the rhythmic platform loose yet solid. 'Europa' (oh Europa!) is a real head nodder with nice fat rhythms and cool keys. 'Templehof' and 'Transit' don't add much to the mix for me although they are pleasant enough.

All in all it is a pretty good album which doesn't quite grip me in the same manner as the last album did.
