The Urban Dictionary defines a goat roper as "a wannabe rancher or a cowboy poser".
Given that there aren't too many rodeos in North Wales, this seems an accurate name for these three long-haired hicks from the sticks - brothers Thomas and Jim Davies and friend Sam Roberts.
With two guitars, fiddle and upright bass they bring a busker's enthusiasm to cosmic country on their second album.
Although the twelve acoustic songs are all originals, it's hard not to think of the retro trio as a kind of string-driven tribute band.
They replicate the rough'n'ready hoedown hillbilly mood and lovesick blues fairly effectively and doubtless are able to kick up a veritable storm as a live band but, on disc at least, a little goes a long way and the novelty wears off fairly rapidly.
