Review: 'EXCUSES EXCUSES'
'Frame Of Mind EP'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '25th November 2016'

Our Rating:
This clean cut Canadian trio from Ontario say that the songs on their five track EP focus "on events and experiences from our teenage years" which proves to be just as uninspiring as it sounds.

On a promo shot bassist, Trevor Bowman, wears a Clash T-shirt while drummer Jason Nicoll sides with Nirvana. Guitarist and singer Kyle Wilton keeps things neutral with a plain blue top but he, and they, are making no secret of their influences. They cite 'punk' bands like Green Day, Billy Talent and Foo Fighters as inspirations.

"Can they feel the punk that I have become?" enquires Wilton in Rewind! but the answer to this can only be a resounding 'No'. Despite the exclamation mark, this and the other four tunes fail to make any individual impact or summon up any excitement.

Punk rock was never meant to sound as weedy as this.

The lyrics ask us to believe that the band are misunderstood outsiders or reckless rebels but such claims seem more wish fulfillment than statements of fact.

Frame Of Mind is more like the kind of unchallenging pop music that a global brand PR team might use in a vain attempt to show how down with the youth they are.
