Our Rating:
Stolen Body Records are going hard this year with a plethora of releases. The Os Noctambulos and Edward Penfold albums were among my favourites from last year and they have already put out a belting album from Dr Chan this year so listen up!

This one comes from Taos Humm: a 3-piece experimental psych band that include Penfold in their number and the other members Matt and Sunny also played on that album. It is consistently lo-fi, distorted and ramshackle, often making an unholy racket and at other times drifting along in a haze ('Meek'). Sometimes they do both in the same song.

'Velociraptortoise' uses an insistent bass line, sibilant hi-hats and surf-twang guitar to get its point across. 'Scarlet You're Handsome' isn't really a 'song' as such and all the better for it. 'OOO OOO OOO' is a right old thrash about, complete with rubbish 'shredding'. 'BB' is more of a traditional garage/psych number. 'Tapestar' starts out on some sort of Chinese film loop and then develops a song out of that, as you do, and it works really well.

'Son Song' closes the album on a suitably strange note. More subdued spoken vocals, interspersed with loud thrashes. It reminds me of Sonic Youth in actual fact. Might be a bit of a grower this one? Like mold.
