Big Sadie want their cake and eat it too.
They want to be old yet new, rustic yet sophisticated, modern yet timeless. innovative yet traditional etc. etc.
Instead they exist in a musical limbo land with a dozen sleepy, sentimental bluegrass tunes about love, lust and liquor.
The Chicago-based acoustic band are fronted by Elise Bergman (upright bass, vocals) and Collin Moore (guitar, vocals).
The duo have been playing music together for over a decade but this is their debut album of original compositions.
They are joined by Andy Malloy (banjo, vocals), Matt Brown (fiddle, vocals) and Jess McIntosh who sings harmony vocals on the title track.

Moore sings "I never seen a girl so fine" (Need Your Love) while Bergman is "paralyzed by wanting" (Good Woman).
With lyrics like this it could, and should, sound raunchier. As it is, the slow, languid arrangements do very little to get the pulse racing.
