Review: 'Scream Serenity'
'Eye of the Storm'

-  Label: '3Ms Music'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '1st December 2017'

Our Rating:
This Suffolk foursome cite Alter Bridge, Stone Sour and Shinedown as their leading influences.

‘Eye of the Storm’ places the guitars very much to the fore, both sonically and compositionally. In some respects, it’s a good thing: SS pack in some piledriving riffs, and they do with verve and energy. But there’s an awful lot of excessive, flashy soloing, and that’s not a good thing. Similarly, while they demonstrate a keen ear for melody, with some killer choruses, at times this manifests as rather soft. Is it hard rock if it’s sweetly melodic?

Some tracks venture from hard rock into light grunge / alt rock. It’s quite 90s, and not necessarily in a good way: in echoing the clichés of the past, and in their most diluted form.

Scream Serenity unquestionably have technical ability, and they have songs. But do they have the nuts?
